Players are dealt five cards and make a bet to try to beat the other players. The player who has the best hand wins the pot.<\/p>\n<p>The rules of the game are simple. The dealer deals the cards one at a time, shuffles them, and cuts them. This action is repeated until all players have been dealt their cards. The last person to shuffle is the dealer.<\/p>\n<p>The first player to act has the privilege of making the first bet. This is also known as the blind.<\/p>\n<p>The other major rule is the &#8220;backdoor flush&#8221;. This occurs when the needed cards are dealt on the turn and river.<\/p>\n<p>In some games, the ace is treated as the lowest card. The straight is five cards in sequential order.<\/p>\n<p>The high card is used to break ties. This is especially important when two or more people tie for the highest hand.<\/p>\n<p>The smallest possible hand is a pair of jacks, but a more impressive feat is a five-card hand made up of two distinct pairs and a fifth card. The best straight is an 8-9.<\/p>\n<p>The game may have seedy origins, but the truth is that the majority of people playing poker believe it&#8217;s a combination of several earlier games.
