The game of poker has a history of many variations. Some of these games are believed to have originated in pre-Columbian cultures. The name poker is derived from a game played by two to four people using 20 cards, and only aces are dealt. This game was then brought to North America by French settlers. When the last betting round has been completed, the cards are revealed to determine the winner. The player with the highest hand wins the pot.
